ABOUT ROTARY CLUB OF GIRIDIH GREATER

Rotary Club of Giridih Greater is part of the Rotary International which has more than 32,000 Rotary clubs located in 200 + countries with approximately 1.2 million Rotarians. Rotary is a worldwide organisation of Business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations and helps build goodwill and peace in the World. One of the main project of Rotary is the Polio pulse program for which it has spent over 1 billion dollars worldwide .
Rotary Club of Giridih Greater is 18 year old club with about 37 + members both young and old. Over the years its members have served the community through its projects centred on the community  and Rotary International worldwide projects.
Rotary Club of Giridih Greater was chartered on 05th March 2003 sponsored by Rotary Club of Giridih.

Since then, Rotary Club of Giridih Greater has been rendering selfless, dedicated and committed service to the cause of humanity through its extremely successful projects in various avenues of service including health, education, vocational enhancement, caring for differently-abled, rural support projects, environment, youth development and women empowerment.

Affiliated to Rotary International’s District 3250 . The Club is considered as one of the prestigious Clubs of Dist.3250, having won several accolades from the District as well as Rotary International for touching numerous lives through its several humanitarian projects, since its inception in 2003.

Water and Sanitation was one of the founding projects of this club a hugely impacting project much before such activities became the norm in the country. Tube wells were created alongwith soak pits, local boys trained to maintain them with tool kits provided. 65 tubewells were made assisting 31 villages.  RCC were formed in several villages. To create an awareness and bring about a change in sanitation and hygiene habits toilets were constructed in village and urban slum houses. Using local talent an awareness movie YATRA was made in local language to create awareness for sanitation. This had funding assistance from D1060 (UK) and D5010 of Yukon, Canada.

The town’s first fully equipped Cardiac ambulance operated for 15 years .This too was a joint venture with D1060. TRF and RGG. Swach Giridih Abhiyan using handcarts to collect and dispose household waste was another first by the club. AIDS awareness in schools was a pioneering effort by the club. Successful Science quiz too was held among school students. Multi speciality health camps are held regularly.

Some other community service projects include a happy school under TEACH Project of  Rotary India Literacy Mission (RILM) in the centre location of Giridih city , a Yatri shade in city,  WinS ( Wash in school ) at Netajee Subhash Chandra Bose school , Makatpur , Giridih in recent years. Wall of goodness (neki ki diwar) set up to allow people to give and take old clothes and other used but useful items .

 During the Pandemic year the Rotarians generously assisted the jobless  families with groceries as well as cooked food under Rotary aahar project . Similarly kitchens were set up to cater to the migrant labour who were returning to the nearby villages. Provision for oxygen too was made during the second wave.

Members of our club have chaired, and served on various district Committees. IN the Initial years the club regularly hosted GSE members

The Club, it true tradition of the Rotary Spirit, sponsored one Rotaract Club named as Rotaract Club of Giridih Greater Yuwa, thus contributing in spreading the Rotary movement.

Interact Club at DAV CCL has been functioning well since several years training generations of students in leadership and service.

 

ABOUT OUR TOWN

Giridih an administrative district of Jharkhand has its headquarters at Giridih. It was carved out from Hazaribagh District on 4th Dec 1972. In ancient times Giridih was surrounded with high and inaccessible hills. It is said that the tribals of the land stayed in the hill area covered with dense forest and rivers. It has a rich heritagewhich is a confluence of Bihar, Bengal and tribal influences.  The region which has the Parasnath hill is considered to be a place of religious & tourist  importance. The significance of the city can be understood by the Parasnath Shrine which is considered as must visit pilgrimage in Jainism The place is also known as Sammed Sikhar or Sammet Shikhar, the ‘peak of concentration’, because 20 out of 24 Tirthankaras attained nirvana through samadhi or meditative concentration at this location.The museum of Madhuban comprised of Jain culture and history of the place. Apart from that, there are other devotional places like Jharkhandi Dham, Harihar Dham, Langta Baba Samadhi Sthal, Dukhiya Mahadev Temple, Saradeshwari Ashram Shree Kabir Gyan Mandir etc. Giridih has had the honour of hosting great men like JC Bose, Mahalanobis, Rabindranath Tagore among others in the past.

Tourist spot like Usri water falls, Khandoli dam,Barakar river,  etc also attracts tourist to visit Giridih.

Today Giridih is one of the emerging city for business and commerce with number of iron & steel industries around and also mica industries. The government has identified Giridih as one of the most potential tourist centers. The rapid urban development and modernization has made the city as one of the major cities in the Jharkhand State.
